What is Gold Plating?

Gold Plating is an electrolytic electroplating surface finishing process for conductive CNC‑machined parts. A thin layer of metallic gold is deposited onto workpiece surfaces from gold‑containing electrolyte solution under applied electric current. Most base materials including aluminum and carbon steel need nickel or copper intermediate undercoat layers. The undercoat ensures coating adhesion, prevents substrate metal diffusion into gold layer. Two major variants: soft gold plating and hard gold plating alloyed with cobalt or nickel for improved contact wear performance. Gold plating delivers superior corrosion resistance, zero tarnish, stable low contact resistance and outstanding solderability. Widely used for RF connectors, electronic contacts, semiconductor components, medical and aerospace precision parts. Soft gold is relatively soft and not suitable for heavy mechanical friction scenarios.
